The origin of the word Christian is Christ in: Christ in you
The word "gospel" means "good news"...What is the Good news? Everyone has probably seen or heard John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life". What could be more clear? God reaches out to us with a gift: the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross paying the penalty for our sin. He was buried and on the third day He rose from the dead. Spelled out by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:3.
When we come to God and agree with Him that we are sinners and can't measure up to His standard, believing the Gospel and receiving this gift, the bible says God counts Christ's righteousness to our account and all our sins ,past present and future are forgiven. When we die we go directly to be with Christ in Paradise.
Read the story of the thief who was crucified next Jesus. He certainly deserved his punishment. He did no good works. He only recognized Jesus as Lord, yet Jesus said to him "today you shall be with me in paradise" Luke 23:43
If you have never understood this amazing love of God before and see your need, just confess this in prayer to God and He will come into your life by the Holy Spirit and make it real to you. Then read the Gospel accounts of Jesus and the rest of the new testament. God will give you understanding and assurance of salvation.
